I was delighted to work with the Friends of Mt Claremont Playing Fields to secure the fields as active green space for future generations. With the demand for playing fields increasing – particularly given the growth in girls’ participation in sport – keeping the fields zoned for Parks and Recreation was important for our community.
It has never been a policy or requirement of a state or local government that parks and recreation be sacrificed for infill and density but rather protected and enhanced to serve our growing communities. Congratulations to the Friends Group for their respectful, robust and positive engagement. I was proud to have them with me in Parliament as I delivered a grievance to the Minister for Planning, securing an undertaking that the fields will continue to be protected.
As the member for Nedlands I am proud to support the McGowan Labor government’s commitment to sport being accessible and inclusive, as well as ensuring that planning holds community benefit.
